Your Chamber's Support of Community Halls

On December 12, 2016 City Council held an open meeting for residents to voice their opinion on the proposed closing of several rural community halls and arenas.  On this list was the Coboconk Train Station, Baddow Hall, and the Norland School Community Hall.  The Coboconk, Norland & Area Chamber of Commerce submitted a letter to Council in support of keeping our halls open. You can read our submission here: CommunityCentreClosuresLetterToCouncil.pdf

There were many strong, confident commuity voices at this meeting speaking on behalf of our communities.  Chamber General Manager Jennifer Wilson also made a deputation to Council based on the Chamber's letter of support.

We are pleased to report that the following day, Council made a unanimous decision to not close any community halls or arenas at this time, and invited the public in these areas to work with the City to come up with a model that will help the halls and arenas remain open as the hearts of our communities.
